We’re very saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Pops, and Founder, Ian Manson.
Ian founded Wanrua Poll Herefords in 1954 and led the stud for more than 45 years. Together with his wife, Thea, they shared a passion for Poll Hereford cattle and Australian agriculture, and became a formidable team.
Throughout Wanrua’s early years, Ian and Thea worked hard to build the studs profile, travelling across Australia and exhibiting cattle at countless shows and farming events - from Naracoorte to Melbourne Royal, Dubbo and Wodonga, to Royal Sydney.
Ian and Thea were later joined by their son Andrew - who shared their passion for the breed. They both had immense pride when Andrew took over the reins and continued to build on their legacy.
Although officially retired by the late 1990s, Ian remained closely involved with Wanrua throughout his later years.
As recently as last week, Ian was still doing what he loved - visiting Wanrua and inspecting our autumn calves.
Always generous with his time, Ian was also deeply involved in his local community, including the RASV, Maffra Agricultural Society, serving as President of the Victorian Poll Hereford Committee, and the APEX, Lions, and Legacy Groups.
Of special note, in 2023, Ian was honoured to accept on behalf of Wanrua, the ‘Legends Award’ at the Melbourne Royal Show, for outstanding service to the industry.
His life and legacy will continue through his family, and on the property he loved so dearly.
